Volunteers at our 2025 group training!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Hunger Fighters!

Please complete the Volunteer Interest Form. We'll review your information and contact you when volunteer opportunities become available.
Due to the high level of interest in volunteering, we may not have immediate openings for all volunteer roles. We review all submissions and will reach out as opportunities become available. Thank you for your patience and support!
Becoming  a Volunteer with HFO
After you submit the Volunteer Interest Form, we'll review your information and contact you if we have a volunteer opportunity that matches your interests, availability, and our current needs.

When a role becomes available, our Pantry Manager will follow up with you to schedule a quick 15-30 minute training at the pantry to learn about our volunteer policies and procedures and be scheduled for your first shift. Once onboarded, you'll be added to our volunteer email list and given access to our volunteer calendar and volunteer portal, where you can sign up for future opportunities.

Current Volunteer needs:
  • Gleaning Volunteers – Help us rescue and restock!
We receive generous food donations from stores, schools, and community partners each week—and we need help picking them up and getting them stocked in the pantry. Gleaning is a great role for folks who are organized, reliable, and don’t mind lifting a few boxes (up to 50 lbs). We currently have openings for:
    • Gleaning Sub List (General Backup)
Want to help but can’t commit weekly? Join our sub list! We’ll reach out when one of our regular gleaners is unavailable.
  • Shop Volunteers
We could use extra volunteers to fill in gaps in our summer schedule! We currently have openings on Mondays from 3:45-6pm, Wednesdays from 1:15-2:30pm (bi-weekly), Wednesdays 4:45-7pm (weekly). and Fridays 9:45am-1pm.
  • Tuesday Delivery Driver
Deliver to 2 clients in Lake Oswego every other Tuesday morning.
  • Tuesday Cleaning Crew
Come in on a weekly basis to mop floors, take out trash, and help keep the pantry looking clean! Play some music and bring a friend or family member!
Volunteer Opportunities

Our regular volunteer shifts include:
  • Shop Volunteers: Shop volunteers help during guests' shopping time. This includes checking guests in, helping guests as they navigate the pantry, and restocking shelves. Bi/multi-lingual volunteers are always needed.
  • Gleaners: Our gleaning volunteers visit local grocery stores to rescue food that the stores can no longer sell ... but is still good to eat! Gleaners work independently, driving to and from the grocery store(s) and then stocking the rescued food items at the pantry.
  • Pantry Prep: Help us sort, stock, and clean the pantry! This is a great opportunity for groups and families.
  • Food Drives: If you are looking for a group opportunity that allows you to get a good understanding of how the pantry operates, consider hosting a food drive or helping with food drive intake. Click here to learn about hosting a food drive.
  • Delivery Drivers: Our delivery drivers pick up and deliver food orders for a small group of homebound individuals.
  • Delivery Packing: Help pack up food and supplies for our homebound guests! This is an independent job that allows you to “shop” the pantry for our guests that can’t shop themselves, making sure they get the food they need!
  • Cleaning crew: Help keep the pantry shiny and clean! We are looking for a regular crew of 2-4 people to rotate deep cleaning shifts each week. This a great way to stay connected to the pantry and make sure our guests are comfortable and safe!
  • Large Group Opportunities (8 max): Along with pantry prep and hosting a food drive, every so often, there are other opportunities open for large groups to volunteer. Please email us to let us know that you're interested.
If you're interested in a specific opportunity, be sure to mention it in your initial email. Please note: We may not always be recruiting for every role listed above.
